Being responsible for the Creation - Ecological Challenges in Central and Eastern Europe
Environmental problems are not restricted to individual regions or countries. On the contrary, they have a greater and sometimes even global dimension, e.g. water pollution, climate change caused by deforestation or incidents in atomic plants. It is important to look at this topic on the whole, i.e. the role of the human being regarding the origin and also the solution of environmental problems and – associated herewith – the position of the church. „Protection of creation“ will be an essential key-note within the speeches, panels and workshops of the congress.

Renovabis, die Solidaritätsaktion der deutschen Katholiken mit den Menschen in Mittel- und Osteuropa, führt im Auftrag der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz seit 1997 jährlich im Spätsommer einen Internationalen Kongress durch. Diese Veranstaltung dient der Information und Diskussion über wichtige Entwicklungen in Kirche und Gesellschaft in Mittel- und Osteuropa, darüber hinaus aber auch über Themen von gesamteuropäischer Bedeutung. Durch die Teilnahme von zahlreichen Gästen aus allen Teilen Europas hat sich der Kongress zu einem wichtigen Forum des Dialogs zwischen Ost und West entwickelt.
Renovabis – the solidarity initiative of the German Catholics with the people in Central and Eastern Europe – has been conducting its annual International Congress on behalf of the German Bishops‘ Conference since 1997. The conferences aim on the exchange of ideas on clerical and social problems related to the transformation in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and on the communication and development of the partnership between East and West. The participants come from all parts of Europe and thus contribute to the pan-European importance of the congress.
