In 2026, the City of Freising, the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, and Renovabis will present the Freising Dialogue Award for the first time – in recognition of efforts that bring together Europe’s East and West. The award honours outstanding individuals, initiatives and organisations that promote understanding, cooperation and reconciliation. The inaugural award ceremony will take place on 16 September 2026 as part of the 30th International Congress Renovabis in Freising.
The Dialogue Award aims at everyone who not only advocates for dialogue between East and West, but actively engages in it. This commitment may be expressed in a variety of ways:
Intercultural encounters
Initiatives that bring people together across cultural and national boundaries. In everyday life, not just on stage.
Community engagement
Projects that support social development and promote social justice through cross-border cooperation.
Exchange and Reconciliation
Work that examines the communist legacy and history of violence, shares historical experiences and paves the way for reconciliation.
Theological and interreligious dialogue
Encounters between different denominations and religions as well as the secular society by fostering mutual understanding.
Particular consideration is given to individuals, initiatives and organisations that originate from or are active in one of Renovabis’ 29 partner countries – from Albania to Uzbekistan.
You can find the full list of countries in the call for proposals.
Much of the work which fosters solidarity across Europe takes place behind the scenes – persistently, and often almost unnoticed. The Freising Dialogue Award brings this work to light and demonstrates that dialogue between East and West remains a task that concerns us all.
